Our Process
Discovery
Discovery is the most important step in the project. During this phase we will develop a thorough understanding of what it is you are looking for, e.g. what is your vision for the web site, how will it fit into your overall digital marketing strategy, what it might look like in the future. To produce the right web presence for you, we’ll start with a comprehensive analysis of your needs:
- What is the purpose of your website?
- What is the target audience?
- Will the website be used purely to inform site visitors about your business?
- Will it be the center piece of your digital marketing efforts?
- How will it help to facilitate your customer dialogue?
- What is your social media strategy?
- Will it support internal business processes?
- How will your web presence evolve?
- Who will host the site?
- What value added services do you require?
Defining Scope
With what we have learned in the Discovery phase we’ll develop the scope of the project. We will prepare a high level overview of the site using a site map and a list of applications that we’ll need to integrate.
Design Information Architecture
Once we have agreement on the scope of the project we’ll look at how the information on your site will be accessed. This step is very important when designing large sites. For smaller sites, the “Defining Scope” and “Design Information Architecture” often merge into one. After this stage you’ll know what content to prepare. We will work with you to define key words for Search Engine Optimization if that is part of the scope.
Design Visuals
The information we have gathered and prepared will guide us now in developing the look and feel of the site. We will look at how you communicate your brand and at the target audience. We will look at color schemes, logos and vital photos that must be included.
We will ask you to point us to some site designs you really like and why you like them.
With this info we will prepare up to three mockups of a site visual and discuss them with you. We will employ a secure area on our website so you can look at the mockups and discuss them within your company.
This is the stage were we will fix the visual direction of the project so open communication here is crucial.
Implementation
Now it is time to turn all the previous research into something tangible- we will retreat to the lab and develop the site code. However, we stay in constant contact and provide development snapshots via our secure website. We will use industry best practices and web standards to build your site.
The site build will happen in stages so you can see it evolve. First the home page with the navigation. The menu will lead to pages with placeholder text but it will give you a sense of what the final site will look like.
Now is the time for you to have the content ready so we can “flow it in”. This is also the time were we add meta tags and keywords.
At the As we have gone through this process together and you have seen the site take shape you might have gotten an idea about how something should be done differently, maybe a newly found insight has changed a perspective or you may just not like this color after all! This is the time to speak up!
Quality Assurance
At this point your site will see the the world as it is. We will begin testing site functionality on all relevant browsers. We will also insure that our implementation passes the W3C validation for HTML and CSS. This means that our code meets the current web standards.
When we feel that the site is complete we’ll ask you to take it for a spin. Have your in-house personal verify that the site works as advertised. Turn Javascript off and see wether the site still functions as agreed upon.
When we all agree that the site functions as desired we’ll prepare a sitemap and submit it to all major search engines. We’ll also setup Google analytics and other site tools if so desired.
Release
OK, you took it for a spin and you liked what you saw. We can register your domain, setup your hosting account and go live that way. Or we can upload it via ftp to your existing server or we can give you a DVD. In any way, now is the time for a last test run and that’s it... Well not really. If there are any problems we’ll be there - that goes with the territory.
Maintenance
Now that the site is life we will train you on how to update the site. Fresh content is important if you like to have repeat visits. Your content should be updated and refreshed on a regular basis. As content is added and removed it is important that links are updated as well. Keywords might be added or removed, in short, there is a lot of detail work in keeping a website fresh. You may want to do this or you may like us to do it. We’ll be happy to talk.
